An Israeli Embassy Official has reportedly been caught on camera plotting to “take down” any MPs who are deemed to be hostile – including Sir Alan Duncan, Foreign Office Minister.
The Guardian reports that Shai Masot, self-described Officer in the Israel Defence Forces, and Political Officer, has supposedly been filmed speaking about British MPs by al-Jazeera’s undercover investigative team.
Following the gaffe, Mark Regev, Israeli Ambassador, was forced to apologise to Duncan, with a spokesperson claiming that “the embassy considered the remarks completely unacceptable.”
They went on to say that Masot would be “ending his term of employment with the embassy shortly.”
Speaking to Maria Strizzolo, former aid to a Conservative Minister, Masot explained how to discredit MPs, saying: “Well, you know, if you look hard enough, I’m sure that there is something that they’re trying to hide. A little scandal, maybe.”
Further extracts of the conversations saw Boris Johnson labelled an “idiot”, whilst the group debated over prominent Palestinian supporters such as Crispin Blunt, Chair of the Commons Foreign Affairs Select Committee.
