Topshop boss quits to run The White Company

The Managing Director of Topshop is jumping ship to lead The White Company.

Mary Homer will be leaving Sir Philip Green’s fashion empire to replace outgoing White Company boss Will Kernan, who himself left to run sports specialist Wiggle – The Telegraph reports.

Green will now have to begin in earnest the hunt to find a replacement for the trailblazing MD.

Homer began her illustrious Topshop career 30 years ago, as a merchandiser, before working her way to the top and serving as MD for 11 years.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, Green commented on the departure, claiming that the company would have to go and “see if we can recruit a world champion”.

He also claimed that the candidate who would replace Homer would not be “an internal appointment”.

Green elaborated, promising that the ideal replacement would be "someone who has been part of the online revolution”, telling the publication that he would prefer a product specialist.

Speaking on the legacy that Homer would be leaving, GlobalData Retail Analyst, Sofie Willmott, told the BBC: “Her quick reactions to trading in and out of product trends and procuring an agile supply base has ensured the retailer has remained one of the key players in the increasingly competitive, young fashion market.

"[Ms] Homer's fashion instincts have paid off, supported by strong buying and merchandising teams, who are passionate about the product they are selling."
